MUMBAI: Maha Shivaratri, one of the most revered Hindu festivals, is celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva.

This auspicious occasion marks the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is also believed to be the night when Shiva performs his cosmic dance, the Tandava.

Devotees across the world observe this sacred festival through deep devotion, fasting, prayer, and meditation.

Many stay awake throughout the night, chanting Lord Shiva’s sacred Panchakshara mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya.”

On this special occasion, TellyChakkar had the opportunity to connect with renowned actor Gurmeet Choudhary to learn about the significance of Maha Shivaratri in his life and how he plans to celebrate it.

Sharing his deep spiritual connection with Lord Shiva, Gurmeet expressed, ‘There’s an incredible divine energy that takes over me, especially when I perform on stage. Though I am not a trained dancer, there was a moment when I completely forgot I was Gurmeet Choudhary. In that energy, I transformed into Shivji. It took me a while to come out of that trance. Not a day goes by when I don’t remember Bholenath.”

He further revealed his daily spiritual practice, saying, “I usually sleep by 9–9:30 p.m. and wake up around 4 a.m. Every morning, the first thing I do is chant his name, and I end my day the same way.”

Gurmeet’s unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva is truly inspiring, and it’s no surprise that he remains one of the most adored actors in the entertainment industry.
