Star One’s Geet Hui Sabse Parayi will re-run on Shemaroo TV, Gurmeet Chaudhry aka Mann Singh Khurrana talks about the show

MUMBAI: TellyChakkar.com exclusively broke the news about Gurmeet Choudhary and Drashti Dhami’s Geet Hui Sabse Parayi returning to Television sets. We got in touch with Gurmeet who played the character of Mann Singh Khurrana in the show wherein he spoke at length about various aspects of the show. Read on the interview.

Geet was your second show post Ramayan, what was going on in your mind before signing the same as it was quite different than what you did?

Actually, Ramayan became popular very fast. I had ever thought that it would gain such popularity. Also, it was a new channel then, still it got well with the audience and even people started knowing me and then I was very young, I was 21. It generally happens that people typecast you based on your role, and this was the thought I had post Ramayana that in Industry people tend to typecast, so I always thought on what to do next  post doing such a larger than life character in Ramayan. This was a big challenge for me but luckily then I did a reality show Pati, Patni aur Woh. So then people saw me and Debina that they are fun loving and young, so from there it started. That show was watched by many including producers and directors. The producer of Geet also saw me there and she was then auditioning for Geet, she called me. I gave the auditions like 10 times, so Gul was ready but the channel wanted to look for options because they thought that I’ve played Ram so playing Mann will not be feasible. So I was giving auditions one after the other but I always got rejected because earlier, whoever has done costume dramas could never come out of that image. They were always type casted so, that was a big reason. Even I was fed up of giving auditions so one day they decided to do a mock shoot with me and Drashti as Mann and Geet. It was a youth show and they wanted bare body shots but luckily I always had a good body structure and proudly owned 6 packs. So, when the channel saw the mock shoot, they realized that they can only be Geet and Maan.

The show is coming on a completely new channel which is Shemaroo TV, your take on the same

The best part about Shemaroo TV is that they have quit good and popular shows. It was so popular that it has been dubbed in English aand so many other languages and watched across like Russia, Indonesia along with India. It is being re-run and even after 8 years people tag me in their posts talking about Geet. They always say that they want to see me again in the show, we still watch it online so, I feel that its good they can now watch it on Shemaroo TV and I feel that its such a show that even if you watch it repeatedly you won’t get bored.

- The show gave you a romantic hero and angry young man image.  Your take on the same..

So, once I met Yash Chopra and he was the one who had encouraged me to do TV. It could happen that someone sees me on TV and signs me like what happened with SRK. He became a TV star and then entered films. So he gave this big example to me and asked me to do TV. And I think Geet was a show which had that heroism. It was like the hero of a film, it had romance, action. Even Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt who finally signed me for their film, so, Mukesh sir’s wife was a huge fan of me since Geet and she had told Mukesh Sir that he is Gurmeet, we should launch him and then I had gone to an award show which they were also attending. I met them for the first time there and then Mohit Suri also recommended me. So it was Geet which gave me my journey from TV to Bollywood and finally Vishesh Films launched me. So, Geet I quite close to my heart. A dream that I had seen, to become a Hero in films that started from here.

- If you could recall your first meeting with Drashti. And off-screen bond with Drashti..

We started shooting together during the mock shoot and it was quite important as before that I had been rejected numerous times. So Mock shoot was the things that all would watch so, there were scenes we had to do together and when we shot that, after that I spoke to Gul and said that though we have met for the first time the on-screen chemistry is quiet good and I guess, something good will happen and post that we got a call that both of us were only playing Geet and Maan.

We’re sure the audience is eager to catch up with the show.

Stay tuned to this space for more updates.
