I can’t do boring emotional crap kind of roles - Chetan Hansraj

Chetan Hansraj
For Chetan Hansraj, playing a negative character comes naturally, and he now gears up yet again to don a grey shade, for Sony Entertainment Television’s Encounter (Endemol India). The man will be seen playing a dangerous killer in the next episode of the show. Talking to Tellychakkar.com, the actor shares, “I play Mangesh, who starts his life as a pickpocketeer and then goes on to become an underworld don named Mangya in few months. The man has no addiction apart from blood and killings, and how his life ends in a police encounter will form the crux of the story.” Telefilms according to Chetan are a good break for actors who want to taste the world of Bollywood. “The way they shoot is just outstanding and you almost feel like you are shooting for a film. Also with talented directors being roped in, the sailing has been wonderful. The production house (Endemol) has also been very supportive,” adds the actor. The show Encounter talks about criminals being gunned down by police. We ask Chetan whether he feels capital punishment is justified for such acts. “For criminals like the one I am portraying, they surely need to be stopped. They are too dangerous for mankind,” replies the well-built actor. Having done so many negative roles, we wonder if his physique and appearance has caused any hindrance to the kind of roles that are offered to him. “Who would want to do those boring, run of the mill kind of roles anyways? I am happy with the roles I have been offered. I can’t do those emotional crap characters where a man has a girl in one hand and a glycerin bottle in the other.” Having being part of the industry for a long time, does he feel that the industry still have the same kind of shows? “The attempt to bring in new and different shows is surely there, but there’s still a long way to go. Also shows like Jodha Akbar and other costume drama are commendable and as for Encounter, it’s a surely refreshing change.” “The shoot is going superb and I am enjoying every moment of it. Also my look is a complete 80’s gangster with fitted shirts and jackets. The cast is also working really hard to make it look real and Eijaz (Khan) is doing a fabulous job as the police who will eventually be the real ‘baap’ over Mangya,” admits Chetan with a smile. Chetan along with the team has been shooting in the summer heat. On the stress factor involved, Chetan avers, “It’s surely difficult but we are trying our best. Every time I see people on the road with no home, I realise how privileged we all are. This makes me work all the harder. I started feeling feverish post shooting on the first day, but now all is fine and rather than complaining, I am working steadily to not spoil the shoot.” That’s quite a dedication, Chetan!!!
