"Save animals"...say TV celebs on World Animal Day

It’s World Animal Day today (4 October 2012). In spite of having a special day for these innocent creatures… they are not very safe in the hands of human beings. We are not only destroying nature by cutting trees at a rapid pace but also killing animals in the lust of bringing them to our dining tables. Already many species have got extinct and the rest are on the verge of becoming a part of history. Hence, it is each and every individual’s responsibility to wake up and save animals.
On this special day, we at Tellychakkar.com got in touch with a few TV actors and learned their thoughts and ideas on saving animals. Read on… Karishma Tanna told us, “We must stop wearing coats and jackets made out of tiger and leopard skin simply for luxury purpose. If someone is really fond of such prints he or she can wear a replica of it.” Narrating an incident when she helped a puppy cross a road, she said, “There was this tiny pup in the middle of the road and I was sure that he was finding it difficult to cross it. So I parked my vehicle aside to pick up that pup and place it across the road where his mother was waiting.” Shubhangi Atrey Poorey, who is very fond of animals, averred, “The very basic thing that one needs to do is love nature. If you start loving nature, you will start liking everything around it.” After a little pause, she added, “Every God in India has some or the linkage with an animal. Laxmi is connected to owl, while Ganesh has a mouse. The basic reason behind this connection in the initial days was to show the value of these creatures but we fail to understand it. A very simple example is of Borivali National Park (Mumbai) which is a sanctuary for leopard, tigers and lions, is now being used for construction and that is why every day we hear stories of animals venturing into locals’ houses.” The actress also keeps helping these creatures in her own way as she told us, “I usually keep water and grains for the pigeons outside my window. Apart from that I once saved a street dog from getting beaten up by a man. There have been many other instances as well.” “In India, animals are slaughtered. I think this will stop only if we encourage vegetarianism. Apart from this, urbanization is killing them as it leads to deforestation. Today vultures and Bengal Tigers are on the verge of being extinct in our country. We must take correct measures soon,” said animal lover Abhinav Shukla. The actor has also saved a Russell Viper snake once as he narrated, “I was travelling on my bike on the highway, when I noticed that there was a Russell Viper snake in the middle of the road. So I parked my bike so that the traffic could get diverted and then I picked up the snake with a stick and left it in a corner. That was a temporary solution but I did my little bit for the creature.” Moving on Binny Sharma seen in Tujh Sang Preet lagai Sajna as Meera said, “I think the Government needs to take some strict action against people trying to harm these animals. Though there are certain laws that are meant to safeguard these poor creatures, but still a lot more is needed to be done.” Shveta Salve… who has two dogs at her place … is also very fond of animals. “The issue of poaching needs to be taken seriously. And it will stop only if the demand for animal products stops. Don’t wear leopard skin or ivory and it will stop poaching to a large extent.” Finally…Vikas Bhalla, currently seen in Uttaran as Veer, said, “I think the best solution is to have less non-vegetarian food or turn vegetarian completely. And one must stop targeting these innocent creatures for fun. Something like hunting must stop.” Well… we just hope this article brings in some awareness in the hearts and minds of one and all. We wish everyone a very Happy Animal Day!!!
