Unhappy fans demand for change in story

In a bid to rake in higher TRPs, Zee’s Meri Doli Tere Angana went for a complete overhaul, replacing the plot and all its actors barring the male protagonist Gaurav Khanna. The lead protagonists Ruhan (Gaurav Khanna) and Simran (Priyamvada) are shot and the latter is declared dead. Surprisingly, all the other characters too were unceremoniously dumped. However, this upheaval hasn’t gone down well with the fans. Some of them have expressed their disappointment through e-mails on our site.

Saneela, of Denkmark, has this to say, “I’m shocked and extremely disappointed with the change in track of Meri Doli.. I’m curious to know as to why the producer opted for such change. We want to see Simran and Ruhan back again.” USA’s Rani writes, “Last week there was a major change in the storyline with the lead pair being shot. Now the entire cast, except for the lead actor, has changed with no warning or news about it to the viewers. I request the production house to bring the lead pair Ruhaan and Simran back together soon. Very curious to know when Simran will be back in the show and what the current track is all about.” Producer Rahul Bhatt defended this move saying, “We felt that that the story needed to move to another level. Our fans must be shocked but television is all about creating such shocks. We were not keen on opting for generational leaps, so ringing in a new story was our best option.” Would they consider bringing back Priyamvada? Rahul chides, “At the moment it looks unlikely. The new track has worked well as our TRPs have increased. Thus, there’s no question of going back.” Speaking on the turn of events, Priyamvada says, “I’m comfortable with whatever the channel or the producer decides. They wanted to experiment with the story and if I didn’t fit the bill, then I’m fine with it. No doubt, it’s a bit disappointing as you get attached to a character but such things are a part of this profession.” Commenting on the new track, Gaurav Khanna says, “I lose my memory and come into the company of a new family, the Bhargavs. Senior actors like Rajiv Verma and Gufi Paintal are among the new star cast. The family treat me as their son and this is how the story progresses.” When asked what led to such a change in the track, Gaurav offered a diplomatic reply, “I’m not the right person to comment on these developments. As an actor, we only follow the script that’s given to us. In the TV industry, characters come and go but the show must go on.” Well said Gaurav but if they are no takers for the new story then who will watch it?
