MUMBAI: MS Dhoni rolled back the years in style during Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. Stepping in as stand-in captain, Dhoni delivered a vintage finishing act, smashing 26 runs off just 11 deliveries to help CSK successfully chase down a target of 167 in a last-over nail-biter at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

His match-winning cameo earned him the Player of the Match award — a title that helped the 43-year-old veteran etch his name into IPL history. At 43 years and 280 days, Dhoni became the oldest recipient of the accolade, breaking Pravin Tambe’s long-standing record set in 2014 when Tambe was 42 years and 208 days old.

Despite the recognition, Dhoni humbly suggested that the award should have gone to spinner Noor Ahmad, who bowled impressively. “Even today I thought, ‘Why are they giving me this award?’ Noor bowled really well,” he said during the post-match presentation.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Dhoni praised the bowling attack but acknowledged that the batting unit needs to step up. He also lauded youngster Shaik Rasheed for his promising innings and consistency in training.
