Of late, Drashti Dhami has been facing a lot of criticism for wearing, apparently, modern and revealing costumes in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 6 airing on Colors).
The virtual space is buzzing with remarks calling the actor’s dresses as “vulgar”, much to the contrary of her on screen bahu image on Madhubala. Certain fans also went on to state that Drashti is using ‘skin show’ to win votes.
One such fan commented, “Last week, she wore a tiny green dress which left little to imagination.”
We tried getting in touch with Drashti, but she remained unavailable.
However, her sister-in-law, Suhasi Dhami shared, “Fans need to understand that the dance forms which Drasthi has done till now have mostly been western which have their own limitations. Drashti’s designer is the same guy who designed my costumes in Nach Baliye (she had taken part in Nach 5 along with her husband Jaysheel). He is very good. I am sure as the rounds pass we will get to see Drashti in more graceful desi outfits.”
Here, Suhasi who is currently a part of Aaj Ki Housewife Hai... Sab Jaanti Hai on Zee TV adds, “Sadly sometimes fans fail to see the person behind their daily soap characters. They forget that she is not Madhubala, but Drashti Dhami. They only want to see her in her reel avatar.”
“However, the thinking is changing as actors are now coming in reality shows where they are seen in an image, which is totally different from his/her on screen avatar. I think people are more conservative in the rural areas.”
When we point out a lot of bashing is coming from urban areas and it appears to be women who are talking in such bad language, Suhasi said, “We are surprised and shocked… are we not?”
A source who did not want to be named added, “Why is Drasthi alone being targeted. Even other girls are wearing similar skimpy clothes. You need to understand that this is a dance show and a lot depends on the number chosen for performance. If it is a sensuous song, you need to dress accordingly, you can’t wear a saree on the dance floor, can you?”
