Karan Johar shares his plan to tackle pay disparity in the industry

MUMBAI: Starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kiara Advani, Good Newwz is an upcoming comedy film. It is directed by debutant Raj Mehta and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Hiroo Yash Johar, Shashank Khaitan and Aruna Bhatia under their respective banners Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films. The trailer launch of the film took place recently. 

At the event, amidst other topics, one that was addressed was about the issue of pay disparity in the film industry which is still prevalent as most actresses are paid lesser than their male counterparts. When film producer Karan was asked about the same, he said he's looking into it. He stated that just like the way our male actors turn producers on the films they are working most of the time, similarly he would try to make his female actors also turn co-producer on a project so that they get to share the profit which automatically ups their remuneration. 

Good Newwz team was asked that what's the real definition of good news and Karan Johar candidly replied, "Good news to me is when stars will start charging me less/lesser." and then added in his inimitable style, "Akshay ne yeh good news nahi sunai hai mujhe abhi tak." 

The film is set to release on 27 December.
